Senior KC Krien looks out the scope for deer. Krien along with Sophomore Adam Krien and Ben Busse, eighth grader, got stuck in the mud last weekend.Imagine sitting in a tree stand watching a mule deer cross the field in your binoculars while the wind is howling. That’s where Senior Kody Charles Krien II, “KC,” would be found.
Krien’s favorite hobby is to go hunting.
“I like everything about hunting,” Krien said. “Tuning in my bow, checking trail cameras and pursuing majestic ‘muleys.’”
Krien said he and his cousin, Eighth Grader Ben Busse pretty much go hunting whenever they get the opportunity.
Busse said, “I like hunting with KC because we can talk about anything and he’s funny. We also have the same passion for hunting.”
Krien said he prefers to bow hunt over rifle hunt.
“Bow hunting is harder. It takes more patience and discipline,” said Krien.
KC said his dream animal to hunt is the Dall Sheep in Chugach Range in Alaska. He said he would also like to go hunting elk in New Mexico during rut. In the future he plans to get a 370 plus elk, bugling at nine yards. After those hunts, KC wants to go to Hawaii to shoot an Axis Deer.
KC also enjoys fishing during the summertime when he takes a little break from hunting. KC likes to have both a spinning rod and a fly rod when he goes fishing.
KC has had a lot of great memories throughout his high school career. One of his most memorable ones was going to the state basketball tournament in 2017.
“It was a great experience and team to be on,” said Krien.
Senior Tiernan Poling said, “We have been friends since preschool. In junior high we would drive the Ranger around the creek after school most days. KC is always nice and happy, there’s never a dull moment with him.”
Tiernan and KC also enjoy going hunting and fishing together.
“My favorite memory of KC is when he got sprayed by a skunk when we were in junior high,” said Poling.
Tiffany Poet, agriculture teacher said, “KC is a surprising student. He always has surprised me with the work and things he says in class. My favorite thing about KC is that he is an independent person that doesn’t rely on people to make him happy,” said Poet. “My favorite memory of KC is when he beat Martin Beikman in a welding competition.”
Steve Jenkins, high school teacher said, “My favorite traits about KC are that he has a really good heart. He also is courageous and tough.”
Jenkins has KC four class periods throughout the day.
“I didn’t even realize I had him that much but we have a good time together in our four class periods,” said Jenkins.
KC’s message to all the underclassmen is, “High school goes by fast so enjoy it while you can.”
