Journalism students work to master podcast and blog
by Brenda Day
The Welcome Page of Journalism Website.
Not only are SFCHS Journalism students busy turning out a yearbook and DVD to remember the year, they are also creating a new journalism website which includes a podcast and a blog.
Yearbook III seniors have created several podcasts covering everything from the Journalism Conference to a Videocast (vodcast) of the Headless Horseman (in both low and high quality.)

The Podcast Page of Journalism WebsiteSenior bloggers have covered topics including the annual yearbook theme dinner party, selling yearbook ads, designing the yearbook, a busy week at SFCHS, Halloween and seniors tailgating. Yearbook I sophomores blogged about turning ‘sweet sixteen.’ Check back each Friday for a new blog by a different Journalism student.

The Blog Page of Journalism WebsiteStudents were motivated to create the site after attending a workshop on podcasting at the Kansas Scholastic Press Association Fall Journalism Conference in Hays on September 25. Soon after the site was launched.
Students have been enthusiastic about the site. Senior Co-Editor-in-Chief Lauren Ross said, “This is a great new tool that we can use to report exciting events at our school.”
Mac Frewen, senior sport section editor, agreed. “We can expand publicity for our school. It’s a great new way to keep our community involved,” said Frewen.
Future plans include a picture page. Each class will take a turn creating the podcast and each student will take a turn at the blog. Have an idea you would like to see covered? Just e-mail it to Adviser Brenda Day or tell any Journalism student and check back often.
